Afghanistan was part of the discussion at the sixth summit of the EU-Pakistan Strategic Dialogue held in Brussels.

The European Union�s foreign policy chief and the Pakistani foreign minister met in Brussels and emphasized the need for an inclusive government and humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.

"The European Commission announced one billion euros to support Afghan people through our humanitarian aid �plus,� which means that we are going to do something more than pure humanitarian help, but without recognition of the Afghanistan government, the Taliban government," said Josep Borrell Fontelles, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

According to a statement issued by the Pakistan foreign ministry, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Pakistan�s foreign minister, raised concerns over the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan at the summit, and urged the world to engage with the Taliban and provide humanitarian and economic assistance to the country.

He also said that the cooperation of the international community with the current Afghan government was essential to prevent the flow of migrants and to prevent the possibility of the country turning into a safe haven for terrorists.

"They also agreed on the need for continuing urgent and unhindered humanitarian assistance and basic social services support to the Afghan people," the statement said.

Meanwhile, The Islamic Emirate said that the formation of the government was an internal issue and that foreign countries should not interfere in Afghan affairs.

"The formation and structure of the government and state belongs to the Afghans. There should be no interference in this regard," said Bilal Karimi, deputy spokesman for the Islamic Emirate.

This comes as Islamabad will host the summit of foreign ministers of the Organization of the Islamic Countries (OIC) within next 10 days.
